Summer Infant Panorama Monitor – REVIEW, 7 Top Features

Before I start this review, rest assured that I have personally bought this product so my views are based solely on my experience. To make this even more interesting, I have also tested out other brands and models, so I can make an objective comparison between the Summer Infant panorama monitor and my experience with others.

  • Name: Summer Infant PANORAMA Digital Color Video Baby Monitor
  • Cheapest Place To Buy: Amazon.com

There are other Summer Infant models out there but this one is probably the most commonly used and bought.

Top Features Specific to This Model

  1. Pan/Tilt/Zoom Feature (remote control)
  2. 5 inch LCD Video Display
  3. Talk-back
  4. Temperature Display
  5. Automatic Night Vision (black and white)
  6. Blue/Red Nightlight (soft glow)
  7. Flashing Volume Lights

1. Pan/Tilt/Zoom 3-in-1 Feature

The ease with which you can remotely control your camera is unbelievable! I find it so convenient to be able to control ALL the camera movements from wherever I’m at in the house.

  • Pan – No need to manually adjust the camera. You can have a full 180 degrees view of the room without even being there! The pan feature actually spans a wide portion of the room so this is quite helpful.
  • Tilt – Another amazing feature of this baby monitor. This is especially useful if your little one is already on the move. You can follow and track their every move by moving the camera up, down, right and left.
  • Zoom – If you want to see things a little closer, this feature works quite well. Also comes in handy if your baby likes to put things in his/her mouth!

2. LCD Video Display – 5 inch

This right here is a life saver for my eyesight! For someone who needs glasses to see most things, this has been my saving grace! The 5-inch screen is a big step up from older models with 2 inch screens. I don’t have to squint to see the images displayed on the screen so this for me is a big plus!

The color quality is also very good for a baby monitor. And the night vision black and white light enables you to see your little one pretty good.

3. Talk-back With Your Little One

Chat with Baby

Even though at the infant stage, your little one can’t exactly talk back to you with actual words, this is such a must-have for any baby monitor. You can calm your baby if they’re crying or if you need to tell them to stop, or don’t touch that!

The clarity in the voice on the other end of the camera is really clear and you can even pick up background noise.

You can even have a little fun with this one by using it with your partner to play fun games 🙂

4. Temperature Display – Don’t Overlook

As simple as this might sound, the temperature display is a prime feature that must not be ignored. Being able to see how hot/cold the baby’s room is, can save you a ton of trouble. Remember, it is recommended that babies don’t sleep with extra bedding and blankets to prevent suffocation. So knowing the exact temperature of the room is crucial to how many layers of clothing you will put on your little one.

I personally don’t use blankets or extra padding when my baby is sleeping, so I always dress according to the temperature of the room, and not necessarily on how hot/cold I “think” my baby’s room is.

5. Automatic Night Vision

This is pretty standard as with some other baby monitors. Most monitors will have a night vision option which helps you to see your baby at night when the lights are off. This is all in black and white when the room is completely dark. The color might change slightly if you use a night light or lamp in the room.

What I like about the Summer Infant Panorama Monitor is that this feature requires no work on your end. Once the lights are switched off, the camera automatically switches to night vision (black and white), so no need to scroll through the controls to turn it on.

6. Blue/Red Nightlight – Very Relaxing

I must admit that I don’t use this feature as much. But that’s because my little one is so intrigued by the light that he often takes much longer to fall asleep as he just wants to stay up and stare at it. He eventually drifts off though. But I love that there are 2 options for the night light, depending on your mood and your intention.

  • Red Light – this is designed to help put your baby to sleep. The red color is a more relaxing (just like a sunset), and this has been shown to help babies drift off. I like the softness of the light and the low light intensity with the red.Sunset
  • Blue Light – this color is designed to be used as a night light, so the room won’t be completely dark.

Both options can be controlled from the parent monitor so there’s no need to go into the room to turn the light on/off. This is a major positive for me as I would hate to go in, only to have my little one wake up, after just putting him down. Who can relate?

7. Flashing Volume Lights

This is literally so cool! The sound from the other end causes the volume bar to flash a specific color. Ranging from green to red, the volume light bar flashes based on how loud the sound is.

  • Green = low/minimal sound
  • Red = louder sound

So you can see how this comes in handy when your baby decides to scream their head off. You can quickly attend to your baby because the flashing lights will alert you.

What’s even better, is that the lights flash even when the volume is turned all the way down, or if the screen is turned off during sleep mode. So you don’t need to see baby to know they’re crying or making a loud sound. One look at the monitor and you know right away.

*BONUS* Add More Cameras

You can also buy the monitor with 2 cameras which can be very helpful if:

  1. You have more than 1 child
  2. You need to view more than 1 room at a time.

You can also buy just the parent set with 1 camera and add more cameras later. You can have a total of 4 cameras connected to one parent monitor.

Pros

  1. Very Affordable for all the features you get
  2. Awesome customer support – I phoned for an issue I needed fixed (my nephew decided to play remote with my baby monitor and somehow disabled a function). They offered to send me a replacement with no hassle at all!
  3. Easy set-up
  4. Sleep-mode feature – can turn off the screen but still hear all the sounds on the other end
  5. Great range – could pick up signal from almost anywhere in the house

Cons

  1. No wifi connection
  2. Can only zoom in 1x

So Yay or Nay?

Yes to Summer Infant Panorama Monitor

I did my research and found that this baby monitor would best suit the needs of me and my family, and it hasn’t failed me yet. In all honesty, my husband and I constantly comment on how lucky we are to have this awesome gadget in our home.

So if you’re thinking about getting the Summer Infant Panorama Baby Monitor, I say “Go for it!”

The baby monitor that I had was only voice activated, there was no camera or microphone allowing me to speak back to my baby. I wish I would have known about this ! I love that there is a temperature control sensor, because its important to know if the bedroom is getting too hot or cold, since you are not there. This is something I am going to have to get for baby #2. do you know how far away you can be from the monitor to be able to access it through its blue tooth? Thank you!

Hi Sophia and thanks for taking part in the discussion. This baby monitor doesn’t have Bluetooth unfortunately. The range specified from the manufacturer is 800 ft, which is pretty good. I had perfect signal and sound with 2 rooms in between my baby’s room and ours. So I think that was pretty awesome! (I wasn’t too keen on the Bluetooth part as I was a bit paranoid about other people trying to connect to it haha).

Baby monitors are an amazing help for busy Mums, and I love that you’ve done your research, because some of them are duds. This one sounds amazing. My son is 2, but it’s still good to be able to keep an eye on him when I’m hanging out the washing. Thank-you for the reliable info, Angie

    • Shantaye May 19, 2018 at 2:09 am

Thanks a lot Angie! And yes, I love that I can use this baby monitor even after the baby stage (well into the toddler years). That’s a plus for me because these kids just keep getting more busy as they grow, so good to have something to keep an eye on them.

Hello Shantaye, thanks for the review as it was very informative. I don’t plan to have kids until I get married, but I always love to learn new things about child care. This product would be great for me in the near future, I really love the features!!! I just hate that it doesn’t include WiFi, but it’s just a minor flaw so it’s fine. Thanks again, and continue to do what you do!!!

I so much appreciate you reading this article. Yes the WiFi was a minor bump in the road as I found out that I really didn’t need it in the first place. Thanks again for your feedback and all the best in the future 🙂

Baby monitors have evolved so much, back in the day it was just volume up or down. I love how they are incorporating features that REALLY add value to parents… and baby! The temp monitor is well thought out and I like the auto night vision.
    Great review Shantaye.

Thanks for taking the time to read through the review Tony. And I agree that baby monitors have really evolved through the years, and have made it easier on both the baby and the parents. The temperature feature is super handy, especially if you are concerned about your baby being too hot. And the night vision is a super cool feature that still allows clear vision of your sleeping baby.
